Sign Language Interpreter in Missouri City, TX
Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter within dynamic school settings near Missouri City, TX. You’ll serve in roles split between a junior high and high school, providing both classroom and extracurricular interpreting services during the academic year.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and expertise as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Interpreter certification through the Registry for the Deaf or the Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Prior experience working with children required, especially in educational environments
- Willingness to undergo fingerprinting for district credentialing
- Professionalism, flexibility, and a deep commitment to supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret in classroom settings, co-curricular activities (such as choir, dance, and cheer), and school events
- Provide support during Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings
- Tutor and assist with assignment comprehension under teacher guidance
- Support student behavior management and intervene as needed in crisis situations
- Adapt interpreting style to meet individual communication needs of each student
- Keep teachers updated on student progress and special considerations
- Attend professional development sessions, staff meetings, and school events as needed
- Strictly maintain confidentiality in all matters
Position Options:
- Full-time opening at the junior high (35 hours/week, 9am-4:30pm, M-F, school year)
- Part-time, short-term opening at the high school (first 6-9 weeks, 1 full day/week)
- Option to add extra hours for 1:1 student extracurricular support, especially in spring
