Make a meaningful impact supporting a junior high student as a contract Sign Language Interpreter in an engaging school environment. This on-site role spans the 2026-2027 academic year and is ideal for a compassionate professional dedicated to enhancing communication access for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
You’ll work a consistent daytime schedule—Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm—for a total of 35 hours per week, with additional opportunities for extra-curricular support (approximately 1–3 hours, varying by day). Activities such as choir, dance, and cheer will allow you to provide 1:1 interpreting in both academic and co-curricular settings.
Qualifications:
- Interpreter certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or the Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing required
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Experience working with children preferred
- Ability to complete fingerprinting as required
- Willingness to participate in prescreen interviews and timely credentialing
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver sign language interpretation in classrooms, school-related programs, ARD meetings, and events
- Support student learning under teacher direction and assist with record keeping and reports
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and special activities
- Adapt your interpretive approach to meet the unique communication needs of your assigned student
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate a high standard of professional conduct
- Monitor and support student behavior, including crisis intervention when necessary
