This contract role offers the chance to make a significant difference by providing sign language interpretation for both special education and general education students, ranging from mild to severe needs. As an itinerant interpreter, you will have the unique benefit of working across multiple school sites, contributing your expertise where it is most needed.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid CDE Authorization required for educational sign language interpreters, in accordance with state requirements
- Achievement of an EIPA score of 3.5 or higher, as mandated for all sign language interpreters in this educational setting
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language interpretation within school environments
- Experience supporting both SPED (Special Education) and general education students
- Flexibility to work onsite and travel between sites as needed
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with teachers, students, and staff
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide onsite American Sign Language interpretation services for students and staff at multiple school sites
- Facilitate clear communication in a variety of settings, including classrooms, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
- Collaborate with special education teams to ensure students' Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals are met
- Support student access to both academic and social opportunities
- Document services provided as required by the school district
