Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Missouri City, Texas
Embark on a rewarding opportunity supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in an engaging junior high environment. This contract position offers the chance to impact the educational journey of a hearing-impaired student, working in close collaboration with educators to foster access and inclusion across classroom, extracurricular, and campus activities. This role is full-time and will be on-site, providing invaluable support Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, with occasional additional hours for extracurricular activities such as choir, dance, and cheer.
Key Qualifications:
- Interpreter certification from the Registry for the Deaf or the Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Previous experience working with children, especially in educational or youth settings
- Ability to pass fingerprinting requirements as outlined by the district
- Professionalism, adaptability, and high regard for confidentiality
Core Responsibilities:
- Interpret in classrooms, extracurriculars, school functions, meetings, and professional development
- Provide ARD Committee meeting support as needed
- Tutor hearing-impaired students under educator guidance
- Assist with maintaining records and preparing necessary reports
- Support student management, including adapting to communication needs and crisis intervention if required
- Keep teachers apprised of individual student needs or concerns
- Participate in ongoing professional development, staff meetings, and special events
- Adhere to confidentiality standards and district expectations
