Educational Sign Language Interpreter – Washington
ProCare Therapy is seeking a fluent American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter for a school-based position in Mountlake Terrace, Washington
This position will provide communication access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students throughout the school day. We are looking for an experienced interpreter who is fluent in ASL and meets Washington State requirements for Educational Interpreters.
Qualifications
Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
Experience interpreting between spoken English and ASL
Comfortable working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in an educational environment
Must meet Washington State Educational Interpreter performance standards
EIPA score of 4.0 or higher AND passing EIPA Written Test
OR
RID National Interpreter Certification (NIC) AND passing EIPA Written Test
Washington requires educational interpreters working with Deaf, DeafBlind, or Hard of Hearing students to meet performance standards established by the Professional Educator Standards Board.
Position Responsibilities
Provide ASL interpretation throughout the student's school day
Interpret classroom instruction, conversations, activities, and school-related communication
Support communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers
Interpret academic concepts accurately while maintaining the intent of the speaker
Collaborate with teachers, Special Education staff, DHH professionals, and related service providers
Maintain appropriate confidentiality and professional interpreting standards
Support student communication access while encouraging independence
Ideal Background
Candidates with previous K–12 interpreting experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Experience working in Deaf/Hard of Hearing programs, Special Education classrooms, 1:1 student assignments, or other educational environments is highly valued.
Pay: $40+ Per Hour depending on experience
