Make a difference every day by supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing as a Sign Language Interpreter. This full-time contract opportunity is located near Tacoma, WA and offers a well-organized, collaborative environment within a district that features a comprehensive DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) program. You’ll work with a middle school caseload, providing interpretations in both DHH and general education classrooms, as well as facilitating effective small group and one-on-one communication for students with diverse needs.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:45 AM to 2:45 PM.

Interview slots available:

  • August 28th, 12–3 PM
  • August 31st, 9–10 AM and 3–4 PM
  • September 1st, 10–11 AM

Key Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting
  • Ability to interpret across various classroom settings (DHH, general education, small group, and 1:1)
  • EIPA score of 3.5 or higher preferred
  • Strong knowledge of American Sign Language and best practices for interpreting for students
  • Professional, flexible, and collaborative attitude

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver clear, accessible communication for middle school students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Collaborate closely with DHH support staff and general education teachers
  • Effectively facilitate communication in a range of settings, adapting to individual student needs
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards
