Step into a rewarding position providing essential support for a high school student as a part-time ASL Interpreter. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring full access to classroom communication and academic content, empowering students to participate actively and achieve their educational goals.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with demonstrated experience in educational or similar settings
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably supporting high school students or youth
- Ability to interpret spoken and signed communication in a diverse academic environment
- Professional certification or state licensure (as applicable)
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Commitment to confidentiality and fostering an inclusive atmosphere
Primary Responsibilities:
- Facilitate clear, accurate, and impartial interpretation between staff, students, and peers throughout the school day
- Support one high school student for approximately 16 hours per week during the full academic year
- Interpret classroom lectures, discussions, school events, and extracurricular activities as needed
- Adapt interpreting style and approach to suit classroom content and student needs
- Collaborate closely with teachers and designated school staff to coordinate support
- Maintain timely and professional communication regarding student progress and service delivery
- Uphold ethical standards and confidentiality at all times
